Hello and welcome to our blog! We’re thrilled to be kicking off our 2025 season with something truly special – The Peaceful Hour!
After the success of last year’s Haunted Scouse and many others, the fantastic Gerry Linford has written another heart-warming show filled with brilliant scouse comedy. Director Emma Bird, who also directed Haunted Scouse, is back at the helm, and we’re beyond excited to see what magic she and Gerry will bring to The Peaceful Hour.
We’re also lucky to have an amazing cast on board. Julie Glover will be joining us again after recently being in Haunted Scouse and Studio show, Hey Bunny, Get Loose! Michael Hawkins once again brings us great scouse humour after his appearance in Lost Soul 2, which we also saw Lenny Wood bring great comedy and we’re excited to see them teaming up again. Another familiar face appearing will be Angela Simms who starred in and co-wrote the beloved, The Royal. We couldn’t be happier to have her back on the stage with us. Making their debuts on the Royal Court stage will be Ellie Clayton and Jack Whittle, both coming in a bringing their incredible energy and we can’t wait to see them shine on that stage!
The Peaceful Hour, hosted by Pete Price, was the ultimate late-night radio staple, running from 10pm to 2am on Radio City for a solid four decades. A fantastic radio show were scousers would ring in with song requests, love letters and personal dilemmas. Now, this legendary show will serve as the backdrop for the new stage production written by Gerry Linford. Gerry brings the beloved show to life on stage, with Pete Price himself lending his voice for some special voiceovers. It’s a real honour to have the original host involved in this production.
We have a fantastic new stage set for the cast to play around with, designed by Chris McCourt who recently designed the magnificent stage for Come Together and Studio shows, Hey Bunny, Get Loose! Chris has outdone himself once again, crafting a set that perfectly captures the cozy, 80s vibe of the show.
As we wrap up rehearsals and head into tech week, the excitement is palpable. Everyone involved is in great spirits, and we can’t wait to share this warm, heartfelt production with you. It’s a show about true love, with plenty of scouse humour and, of course, some cheesy love songs to top it all off!
We can’t wait for you to see The Peaceful Hour. It’s going to be a truly special experience!
