Youth Theatre Update April 2026
The cost of living crisis continues to affect everyone, and we’re not immune to it at the Royal Court. Rising costs for things like supplies, energy, and wages, along with increases in National Insurance contributions, have made running our theatre much more challenging.
Our Youth Theatre is one of the things that matter deeply to us. We’re incredibly proud of what it has achieved and the confidence, skills, and joy it brings to young people, many of whom go on to do wonderful things on stage, screen, and beyond.
However, the practicalities of running sessions outside the theatre have become increasingly expensive, and we need to take some time to review how we can make changes to the programme to make it sustainable for the long term. With this in mind, we have made the difficult decision to pause Youth Theatre sessions until we have an alternative model of delivery in place.
This is not a decision we’ve taken lightly. We know how disappointing this will be for the young people currently taking part, and we completely understand the upset it may cause. We believe this break will give us time to develop a new model and come back with a robust Youth Theatre offer that continues to reach those who have the least opportunity to take part in arts activities.
The theatre will endeavour to support our valued members and provide guidance on alternative youth provision in the city where we can. The well-being of our young people has always been, and will continue to be, our top priority.
