Join award-winning Irish playwright & actor David Gilna for an unforgettable evening of storytelling as he delves into the laughter and heartbreak that shape our lives. Through themes of grief, nostalgia, and the enduring power of humour, David asks the ultimate question: why do we tell the stories we do? A deeply moving and wildly entertaining night that will leave you laughing, crying, and craving more.
After a string of sold-out shows at The Viking Theatre and The Civic Theatre, David is thrilled to announce that his new play: Did I Ever Tell Ya is heading Liverpool’s Royal Court as part of the fantastic Liverpool Irish Festival.
So why do we tell stories? Why do I tell stories? Maybe it’s to make sense of the madness we call planet earth. Maybe it’s to hold on to the people we’ve lost. Or maybe, just maybe, it’s because stories are the only thing that last. The only thing that matter. Because we’re all in this mad, beautiful mess together.
“Some stories heal, some stories haunt, and some fill the room with laughter—this one does it all.” - The Viking Theatre
“Gilna has a sharp stage presence and a keen eye for the dramatic. Influenced by Malachy McCourt, his storytelling seeks the universal in the personal.” – Independent.ie
“A rare talent. Intimate, gripping, and uplifting—Gilna’s storytelling raises your spirits. A privilege to be in his company.” – No More Workhorse
“Less a confessional, more a tale with a moral—Gilna knows what buttons to push: pain, pause, pathos, laughter.” – The Arts Review
