What would we do without our Community Choir?
They sing, they dance and generally just have a good time. They have been singing their hearts out all across Liverpool recently, narrowly missing out on winning a competition at St Bride’s Choir Festival & Summer Fair last weekend.
At the helm of it all we have Jay, the choir’s Musical Director. How does he round up all of the members and get them harmonising and dancing in sync? That’s a secret he will probably never tell you.
We’ve got members from all walks of life ranging from 21 years old up to 80. That’s quite the age range.
Some members can sing, some of them can’t. One of our members literally cannot sing. No really, Barbra had an operation which meant she lost her vocal chords but you could never tell when looking at them all together. Barb spoke to the Liverpool Echo about it.
“My voice is in my head but the choir sing a voice for me in the same rhythm and timing as mine, so it’s like me actually giving voice and it’s also giving me my voice back.”
You would be wrong to think that the choir is only here to hum a tune. No, their social life is just as important as the actual singing itself. Just ask Dee, one of our long-standing choir members:
“You get here and start chatting with your friends, start singing and you go home feeling like you’ve had the best tonic in the world.”
